Hakim Regine is a multidisciplinary clown based out of Whitehorse, Yukon.
Theatre deviser, director, musician, teacher, visual artist, and designer, they have been living on Kwanlin Dün and Ta’an Kwäch’än Territory since 2020. Their practice is slow, playful, and collaborative, and uses laughter and absurdity as entry points into difficult topics. Using humour as a tool for connection and world-building, Hakim’s work encourages audiences to unclench their bellies and their buttholes through laughter.
Hakim has many years of experience leading adults and youth through the basics of collective theatrical creation, and finds particular joy in working with folks who may not consider themselves artists. They love to tend creative spaces that are low barrier for folks who are not catered to by western artistic institutions, and are always working to redefine what it is to be an artist, community member, and clown.
Hakim is a violinist specializing in experimental improvisation, a member of the synthpop duo Dr. Doctor and The Shrimp Lord, an artistic associate at Milkweed Productions, and a founding member of The Good Bird Collective. They hold a BFA in Theatre Performance with a specialization in clown and devised works from the School for Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University (2017). They are currently writing their first full-length play, titled A Story We All Know.
